The genesis for the idea of company comes from my childhood. During my schooling, I was home tutored by my mother. She was a strong believer of activity based learning, as a result she taught me science and mathematics through activities and experiments. This method of teaching was very impactful and fun. I remember spending hours of quality time with my mother and never had a problem understanding the fundamentals. This motivated me to create an environment which will allow activity based learning for every kid.
At Kurious we create science kits based on NCERT curriculum for all the topics present in the textbook. The kit consists of workbook and apparatus required for activities. The workbook contains detailed instructions and worksheets for all the activities. This will allow the child to learn through experimentation and observation. The kits are designed based on computational thinking principles and with all safety precautions.
In 2019, I was a part of the Code India initiative launched by the Office of the Principal Scientific Advisor to the Government of India. The aim of the project was to introduce coding to students at a young age so that they meet the future job requirement skills. I personally observed that most of the students lack computational thinking skills which are fundamental to develop any other skill. This influenced me to start courses on CT for children and to inculcate CT as cross – curriculum in basic sciences and mathematics. The influence of AI across all domains had made learning programming, coding as a civil right. Our programming courses are developed by including computational and design thinking components giving room for students to innovate, think and apply the skills.

In addition to reading and writing, computational thinking has been recognised as a basic skill of the 21st century which is required to be possessed by every child. CT has been introduced into the mainstream curricula in many countries and India has joined them with the The National Education Policy 2019 recognizing CT as a fundamental skill. The education policy recommends teaching CT from age 6 using well designed worksheets.
CT has four major components – Problem Decomposition, Pattern Recognition, Abstraction and Algorithm. CT is a person’s analytical ability to formulate and solve problems, to design and implement ideas and to address those problems. The Kurious products have proven to be very helpful during the pandemic. During these days, when teaching has transferred from traditional to online mode, Kurious Science helped the students understand the concepts and provide them access to the lab.
